The images below show accumulated tidal data for the ebb and flood tides passing through Backstairs Passage. I am not sure what the data collection period was, but I recall it being long enough to establish clear patterns.
The colour scale on the right indicates the strength of the tide, red being the strongest/fastest. Lines with an Arrow head indicate the general direction of the strongest flows in a given area.
The charts are useful for getting a visual idea of how the tides work in this area, and how they can help you if you get the timing right, and also where you might end up if you get it wrong!
